Why did i do so bad this track season?

so yea i just finished freshman year. i ran a 2:19 for a 800 and 5:27 for a mile, both with xc spikes. my 8th grade pr's were 2:22 in the 800 and 5:45 in the mile, both without spikes. i dont get it, like i did xc for the first time this year and thought it would help big time. i did get injured during the last 3 weeks this season and i had about 3 meets left, and i had only ran 2 meets and trained for about a month before the injury so i guess i didnt show the fruits of my training. but my other teammates who i have been running with forever and was like equal with in 8th grade track ran like sub 5 min miles and sub 2:15 800m, and they did that before my injury. is there something wrong with me? i am still a little injured now so i cannot risk injuring it again. my 5k time is about 19:40, which is bad. my other freshman peers ran under 19. how can i make sure i do better next track season? i want that sub 5 min mile and sub 2:10 800 really bad.
